Forthcoming Reviews & Great Opportunity

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be approached by the PR department of Liz Earle and asked if I'd like to try out some of their products, of course I said yes and a few days later a fabulous parcel arrived. (take note of the exceptional packaging Lush!)
For me to try were the following:
Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Starter Set
Instant Boost Skin Tonic
Skin Repair Moisturiser - Normal/Combination
Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion
Daily Eye Repair
Brightening Treatment Mask Starter Set
Superskin Body Cream
Sample of the Botanical Essence Eau de Parfum

When I received this very generous parcel I was still testing the Boots Protect & Prevent and then I got a stinking cold but now I've started using this stuff and I'll start rolling out the reviews.

In addition to the stuff above, I mentioned to the company that I was suffering with some spots and struggle as a 35 year old to treat them without using stuff intended for teenage skin. They were again kind enough to send me a sample of their spot treatment Spot-On. So I'll be reporting on that soon. But now for the exciting bit!

How would you like the chance to ask your skin concern questions to an expert?

Jo Givens is the Treatments Manager for Liz Earle and is very kindly going to do a Q&A for my readers, addressing any questions they might have regarding their skin. Large pores? Acne? Fine Lines? Bacne? If you have any questions at all, now's the time to get free and expert advice.

A Little Bit About Jo.

Jo originally trained as a make‐up artist, but soon turned her hand to beauty therapy after realizing the wonderful impact that face and body treatments have on people’s wellbeing. She has over 16 years experience in the industry and her passion is a holistic approach to Beauty Therapy.

After gaining hands-on experience in the South West, Jo re‐located to her native North West England, taking up the challenge of her first 'spa set-‐up’ as Spa Manager at the Duke of Westminster’s prestigious 5-Star Hotel, The Chester Grosvenor & Grosvenor Spa. Jo took complete ownership of the treatment menu and designed all of the new treatments, training a team of therapists and carrying out treatments for VIPs including the Duchess of Westminster.

Once again, wanting to be more hands-‐on, Jo moved to New York and worked as Head Therapist at a 5-Star Small Luxury Hotel of the World, The Emerson Inn & Spa, in The Catskill Mountains. It is here that she further developed her holistic approach to treatments (also training in the world famous La Stone Therapy in NYC) and continued her Reiki studies, which she put to good use as she arrived one month before the 9/11 tragedy. Jo found it so rewarding to be able to really help people who had been affected.

On her return to the UK, Jo worked for the brand Simple, developing new treatments for their flagship spa in Covent Garden.  After two years with Simple, and training with Ben Barnett (who has treated Kylie) for Hydrotherm Massage, she finally found her dream job with Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare where
she now heads up a team of therapists at their Duke of York flagship store and is currently developing their new body treatments.

Pretty good huh? So please leave your questions in the comments by Sturday 6th March and I will pass them all on to Jo and post the replies as soon as I get them. So please do ask all your questions!

  3. I have extreme combination skin - oily, oily on nose (and around nostril sides) but insanely dry around chin, upper eye area and 'normal' every where else. I have pretty good, even tone, and it's in good condition wrinkle-wise (considering I'm 36 and used to smoke like a trooper!). Any advice on what to use would be very, very welcome! Thanks!

  4. I love Eyebright, it's great for using as a gentle eye makeup remover and Eye Repair is is another favourite!

Be careful not to over tighten the lid on the Spot-On. I've managed to break the roller ball more than once by over doing it. x

  8. New mum, dry hands from washing 20+ times per day. Normal hand cream not even touching it, any ideas?

  9. I've suffered from terrible razor burn/shaving rash/spots on my face and neck (yes, I'm a man) in all my years of shaving. I had some initial success with TendSkin but that stopped being effective after a while.

I've now switched to using an electric shaver and surgical spirit (it's a LOT cheaper than TendSkin) which seems to have helped, but again its effectiveness is starting to wane.

Do you have any product advice on the long-term treatment of shaving rash & the associated spots without spending a fortune?

  10. I have a similar problem to Graham, but it's UNDER my beard. Recently I began growing one - started due to not having a bathroom (renovation.) Since then I've been told NOT to shave it, as it looks far too good on me.

The problem is that the skin under my beard - I can't see it, I just know occasionally it begins itching, and of course I then begin to fuss at it. I then wash to be sure it's clean and so on.

I've heard that is the WRONG thing to do. Quite frankly, I don't know, and the "ask the Interwebz" is more likely to be inaccurate than accurate. Could you ask your expert friend if she has any general male facial tips, covering both shaving and not shaving. (I do shave some areas of the face.)

Also, like Graham, I'm not very interested in spending a fortune on it. Actually, I can't right now at all. But I will spend some money. Oh, and of course, it would help if it were available outside the UK - as I'm in Finland. Things like "Lush" and so on aren't here. (Yes I know, I'm sounding very non-male here, shut up.)

  11. I'd love to know if there is anything I can use to protect my skin from ageing - brown spots etc - that isn't heavy and/or greasy.
