Excuse the terrible mobile phone pic. Anyway, this is the lovely little starter kit I got. Two image disks, three special polish, a scraper and stamper.
So I painted my nails with the Misa polish which is lovely and decided to have a little play. So I got everything out. Couple of pre soaked (with nail varnish remover) pads, cleaned the stamper and the disk and then chose white special polish and a couple of cute little flowers to stamp on each index finger. I laid out everything in front of me and off we went. White polish on the plate, scraped it over my design, rolled the stamper firmly over the design. Nothing. Nothing transferred to the stamper at all. So I pick up my pre soaked cotton wool, clean the scraper, plate and stamper and this time, as I pick up the wet cotton wool, despite my best efforts, little acetone soaked fibres are sticking into the polish on my right hand, dissolving my manicure. I try again. This time, half the image picks up. So off we go again, cleaning it all again, more acetone spoiling my polish, little fibres sticking to it. Lovely. Off we go again. This time the whole image picks up, or so it appears and I quickly go about rolling the stamper over my index nail... nothing. I was fast too. Obviously not fast enough. So off we go again, cleaning all the kit and trying again. Again I manage to pick up the whole image (I think) stamp it straight on my finger. It's not quite right, position wise, and a couple of bits of flower petals are missing but I don't care. Same thing happens on my other hand too.
Possibly the single most stressful thing I have EVER done to my hands. And that includes cutting my palm open on glass. I know it's just a case of practice makes perfect and I certainly will try again but only when I have a couple of hours to spare and I'm full of good mood and patience. I have read so much about tips and techniques and I worked fast, had my workstation organised, cleaned everything to remove oils from my fingers but to no avail. Even the finished result was only 90% all stamped on.
I think I'll be leaving it a while before I try again. Tell me it gets better! I really want stars on my nails!
I was going to buy the excat same starter kit, no idea how to do konad at all though! Does it come with instructions? haha.
ReplyDeletexxx
I think there are some instructions but Leanne did a great konad post over at Do Not Refreeze!
ReplyDeleteIt does take practice, but once you get the knack there will be no stopping you. I did an extensive guide on my blog too, so have a read and see if that helps.
ReplyDeleteMake sure your remover has no moisturisers in it, pure acetone is best. Also make sure you don't press too hard when picking up the design, as too much pressure can cause it not to pick up........best of all, practice on old mani's before you remove them, then you have nothing to ruin and no pressure, you can experiment all you want then remove it when done. Keep trying, don't give up. If you need any help just give me a shout Hun xxx
Thank you very much for that - I will check your post!
ReplyDeleteHope it helps, just look for Konad Tips & Tricks, it is in the categories and on a link at the top of the page. Let me know if you need any help at all, I will do all I can to get you Konading :o) It CAN be done, honest ;o)
ReplyDeleteGive it another whirl.
ReplyDeleteI'm following and want to see what you come up with.
It does take some getting use to but it is SO much fun,
Susie
Hey, did you make sure you peeled off the plastic layer on the plates..I got this kit about 2months ago and didnt realise it has that on them, and it wouldnt work! But once took that off they worked fine :) x
ReplyDeleteI will try again - fear not! And Sar, I will check!
ReplyDeletein the beginning, I was swearing I was stupid, because I couldn't do anything. If I haven't watched people doing it on youtube, I was going to blame konad for being faulty.
ReplyDeletebut then I got the hang of it, and trust me, after that point, everything is going to work well. Everyone has their own rhythm, some people can work slowly, and some have to work incredibly fast. It's a matter of "understanding" your konad =))) Good luck, and don't give up!
Oh no Charlie! I didn't mean to give you stress for your birthday, lol! My attempts with Konad are far from perfect but I didn't have problems like this, the only thing I did differently was not wiping the plate and stamp with remover first, maybe that stopped the polish from sticking to the stamp so well? I hope it hasn't put you off for good, it's definitely a practice thing :( Your new hair colour looks lovely btw x
ReplyDeleteTrincess - thank you - I'll keep going don't worry!
ReplyDeleteEva!Thank you. Don't worry I'm determined to make it work and I AM grateful honest! I just need to practice! xxx
I loved every bit of this review. I felt frustrated and annoyed while reading it, and I could feel your annoyance with the product. Oh dear, i am not sure I have the patience for this and if I am ready for the faff. I was tempted too, but all this to have the stuff flaking after 2 days, umm, not sure i want to go through the trouble and the cost. Please keep us informed of your progress if you want to have a play for some more xx
ReplyDeleteHave you tried using a nail file on the stamper? Sounds crazy but I found it picks up the image easier.
