Beauty Related Things I had for Christmas :)

I didn't get loads of make up and things for Christmas this year, but I did get some very nice bits I thought I'd share with you all here.

The first thing I got from my husband was the Babyliss Root Boost. Looks like I forgot to crop the picture first. Sorry about that. I've had a go at playing with this but am struggling to find the time to do my hair with it. Since my hair is insane I straighten it most days, which is time consuming enough without adding this into the mix. Also, because the couple of times I've used it I've been rushing I've not managed to create a huge amount of volume at my roots, although certainly there is some volume added, but I should think with a can of hairspray and some time I could get some fairly big hair going on. I'm not convinced I can managed to do the back of my head though without the crimed roots being visible... I guess we'll see!
The next thing I got were the cult Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers from my Dad. Well I don't think lash curlers and I are meant to be to be honest. These appear to make virtually no difference to my lashes whatsoever no matter how long I leave them clamped on. I don't think its the curlers, I think it's my lashes. They also don't fit my eye socket and I struggle not to pinch skin at the outer edge of my eyes and stab my brow bone on the inner corners. I'll keep persevering though!
Next I received The Sanctuary Bidadari Shimmering Body Oil from my Mum. The bottle is really beautiful. Sweet Almond and Coconut oils fragranced with Ylang Ylang and full of gentle gold shimmer. This is a very luxurious and beautiful product and I'm thrilled with it!
I also had something thats been on my wishlist for so long, Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara in Purple from my sister. I love the black and I also own the Rouge Noir. Rouge Noir was a bitter disappointment as you can see in my review over at http://www.britishbeautyblogger.com/. The colour was fine but it was so clumpy! So I was praying the purple would follow the Black formula and not the Rouge Noir. To my great relief it does, no clumps at all. As with all coloured mascaras (I find) indoors you can't really tell you have a colour on, but step outside into natural light and it can been seen, but it's subtle, which is just fine. I didn't want electric purple lashes! This is everything I hoped it would be!
Then finally my lovely friend Eva bought me two things, firstly she bought me the Wish Come True eyeshadow from Mac's Tartan Tale holiday collection, it's a gorgeous shade, a sort of muted pinky mauve and I've used it a lot since getting it. I'm sure I didn't read good reviews of these, pigment wise, but I don't have any problems with this, it shows up on my lids exactly as expected. A great all round useful colour. I'd still really love the green and the grey as well. Especially the green!
Evie also bought me my very first Lanolips in Rose. I've been wanting to try these for ages but I've never quite got round to getting one! It's a lovely colour, a nudey pinkey... rose shade. However, it doesn't seem to be fixing my dry lips. I have no idea why this is. I won't stop wearing it though as it's so pretty and easy to wear and I keep casting my eye over the other shades now.

So actually, it turns out I did get quite a few beauty related bits after all. I also had loads of clothes, underwear, books, chocolate, vouchers and some beautiful Vivienne Westwood earrings so I did very well.

Anything here take your fancy? Also, if anyone has any tips for using the lash curlers I'd be really grateful!

  1. It amused me to think of a Dad buying eyelash curlers! My Dad would not have the first clue! Mum would buy them and tell him he'd got me them and there would be rumbles and grumbles about what the hell are those for? What do you need to curl your eyelashes for?! Girls are weird... Maybe that's just my Dad! :)

I actually like the MAC tartan thing, didn't like anything when I first saw the collection oddly.

Tips for lash curling are tricky, a lot of it is just practising and getting the hang of it - took me a while. One thing I will say though is you might be better of gently pulsing them while clamped on your lashes. I have been reliably informed that Shu Uemura are the best springy ones and that's the way to do it! xx

  2. Have you tried heating the curlers with a hairdryer before using them?

  3. I don't seem to get on all that great with eyelash curlers either, yet I REALLY want the Shu Uemura ones! They've developed this reputation as being a magical contraption that solves all your eyelash woes...or not as the case may be! :)

The Lanolips looks like a great colour and anything VW is def a winner with me!

  4. Hi Charlie,
The weirdness continues as I picked up the Chanel imitable mascara in purple when I got my Champale stuff the other week. We really were seperated at birth! Such a shame you aren't getting on with the eyelash curlers. I find I get much better results when I gently pump the lahes with them rather than just clamp them down for 30 seconds. Hope that makes sense? The MAC eyeshadow looks lovely X

  6. I love a good post on what one got for xmas/birthday as I am so nosey, and these look like great products.
I have had Shu Uemura for ages and was so disappointed...so I went a bought the Shiseido ones (I know 2 eyelash curlers I am daft me) because I had heard that Shiseido could work better, on my old blog I compared the 2 and I will resurrect the post because I think in retrospect it was quite helpful - for me Shu is better for a rounder eye, and Shiseido for a more almond shaped eye, but the biggest tip was to not just press hard and hope for the best but to sort of clamp and gently pull the eyelash curler up whilst the lashes are still clamped inside - if you look on youtube at people using eyelash curlers they seem to do that and that helped to 1 get a curl and 2 keep the curl.
Interesting comment about Lanolips not moisturising - one of my duds of 2010, Replica had the same problem.
Sorry to blather on - thanks for this Charlie. Jan xx

  7. Hey all, thanks for the comments as always.

Jan, I'm glad I'm not alone! I'd love to see your post please and I'll make sure to look up some vids. Also, glad its not just me with the Lanolips, I thought it was, everyone seems to love them!

GABY, it is, you know you want one!

Lipstick Luvvies, ha! We are truly seperated at birth I think! Will definitely try pumping my lashes. That sounds really weird.

Wedgie woo, the magical reputation is why I wanted them! I'm going to try harder with them!

    Mazz, no I haven't, I will though!

Little Miss H, will definitely be trying your technique tomorrow morning thank you. I have to say I gave my dad a wishlist and left him to it! x

  8. The purple Chanel mascara looks lovely and I'm surprised how taken I am with the Tartan tale eyeshadow. That's such a pretty colour. I'm not in love with the packaging but at the end of the day, it's how the colour looks that's most important. Thanks for sharing the swatch.

The coloured lanolips are probably not as lip healing as the 101. I meant to look and see if it was in store on Sunday then forgot. Have you ever tried Lansinoh on your lips? If mine get really bad I use that as an overnight treatment and it's fantastic.
