Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation

Clarins Skin Illusion (£34 for 30ml) was first bought to my attention by my friend Kenneth Soh who was raving about it on MSN to me one day. I duly trotted off to my local Clarins counter to have a look and get a colour match.  The foundation is designed for all skin types and looks to come in a wide variety of shades.

The first thing I wanted to comment on was that I went to two counters and the colour matches they suggested for me were way off. Fortunately I was able to get some sample sachets in a variety of colours to try at home....I'm very happy I didn't buy the suggested colour, 105, far far too orange and dark on me.  I'm actually somewhere between a 103 and 104. Interestingly, all three of those shades swatch very similarly, it's not until you cover your face in them that you get a real look.

Here's a little look at 104 on the back of my hand.
So anyway, what does the Clarins Skin Illusion profess to do? Well the clue is in the name really! It's oil-free, hydrating, light reflecting and medium coverage and the idea is to give you the look of radiant perfect skin.

It comes in a lovely glass bottle with a pump dispenser which is ideal. The foundation itself gives a medium coverage but it's so light to the touch and silky, it feels like applying a serum or something similar rather than a foundation. It's somewhat amazing that something so light feeling gives the finish and coverage that it does but its fantastic.

Normally I swear by either a duo-fibre brush application or my ELF powder brush for stippling and buffing on, but by far the easiest way with Skin Illusion is fingers. I find this gives me a pretty much perfect finish and I tend to then just add a touch of powder to my nose, but make sure I keep it a nice light powder (I'm still loving Clarins Spring Breeze Ltd powder, so much so that I now have two of them).

There's not much more to say really other than this is currently my foundation of choice and trust me I have about 7 on the go at the moment, but this is one I'm reaching for most. Seriously, Clarins can do no wrong in my eyes at the moment. I've been grateful to receive a few samples lately from them, including this foundation,  but since receiving my samples I've bought a whole lot more so will be blogging about those soon too.

Anyway, I'll leave you with some pics of the Skin Illusion on my face to give you an idea of the coverage and finish. Please excuse the woolly hat and coat, I was on my way out when I remembered to take the pictures, having forgotten to take them for several days previously!

  1. Love the hat! This looks quite matt in the pics, is it in real life? I like the sound of the texture, am addicted to Clinique moisture surge tinted moisturiser topped of with a bit of Aqua Lumiere where needed, which gives me the perfect amount of cover without being in anyway heavy, might have to have a look at this one next time I'm shopping. x

    1. No, it's not really! It's just my bad pictures. It's lovely.

I love moisture surge too, but its not quite enough for me in the winter! x

  2. Your skin looks flawless! My initial thoughts was it looks slightly matt? I'm currently using NARS Sheer Glow, love the way it makes my skin glow xx

    1. Thank you! I don't know why it looks so matte in the picture, it's really not! It's not really glowy either though, its maybe a satiny kind of a finish? Sheer Glow is a bit drying on me I find... :(

  3. Hmmmm, interesting...I wear tinted moisturizer now and Laura Mercier is my favorite. The Clarins is more wallet-friendly, though. I do like a hint of subtle glow. I'll have to give these a try. I hate orange, though. It's always so difficult to find something with light coverage to match my sallow skin tone. Good thing you didn't trust those SAs!

    1. Yeah can you imagine. Tinted moisturiser just isn't enough for me at certain times of the month you know? In Summer though and when my skin is clear I love it. not tried the Laura Mercia, I maybe should! That said, I've got so many foundations and bases!

  4. We are so similar lol, I love this foundation AND it is a great price (made my beauty essentials list as it is so light and yet provides fab coverage. Before trying this my only Clarins product was Beauty Flash Balm. Since then then I am having a little love affair with Clarins :-)

  6. Ha funny pics! I adore this foundation too... wore it all summer and just got a few samples in paler shades from my local chemist to try. Also love how quick and easy it is to apply and the pump bottle.

    Nic x
