The valentines box was ok, I liked the skincare, I liked the pink box, but I'd have been really disappointed if I'd have paid for it, there wasn't anything I got excited about in there.
The February box though, that was the killer. I won't go into what was in there in any great detail, but again it wasn't exciting and then I found out some people got a Becca Beach Tint. If I had have paid for my box I would have been so cross! I got well some not very exciting bits again. Very disappointing.
And then there's the furore over the Harrods box which I didn't receive. Some people got a Burberry lipstick, others didn't. How can it be fair?!
And thats the problem with Glossbox. There are often things you can get off counters for free. People sometimes get much coveted and desirable items whilst others get yet more skincare samples and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to who gets what. Certainly if there is something fabulous then it should be across the board to stop the cries of unfairness!
It feels awfully ungrateful to moan about something that is free, especially something that seems so "gift" like but I have to review this as though it was something I paid for with my own money and if I had paid I'd be really unhappy if I'd missed out on the Becca Beach Tint and then the Burberry lipstick in order to get more skincare or body lotion.
So I'm over Glossybox. I still love the idea, and I also still think these are GREAT idea for anyone who likes beauty products but isn't a blogger. As bloggers we are often already surrounded by samples plus the huge amounts of things we buy, it's something special we look forward to and if for some reason we don't get it then its really disappointing.
*Disclosure - if it's not already clear, I received my boxes free of charge and I do feel awful about sounding so ungrateful - I've tried very hard to be objective*
I completely agree, I've stopped both Glossybox and Joliebox because I was sick of getting poor service and what turn out to be free samples you can get over counters in shops, load of pants!
ReplyDeleteYeah it's not great unless you get one of the "big" products...
DeleteI've cancelled my subscription after boxes that were't as good as everyone else's.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned on someone else's blog that maybe they should all be the same or the GB ambassadors have a larger role in the choice of products. For example tell them what they are planning on putting in boxes and if the ambassadors feel everyone should receive a certain product or they should drop a product completely they can do that. GB is nearly a year old and it seems to be getting more people angry the longer it goes on. The fact they don't use your profile to tailor products is my biggest gripe. i will miss my subscription when the boxes come round however i don't have the guarantee of getting the item I'm lusting over even if I'm a subscriber.

very good point indeed! x
DeleteSome people got a Becca Beach Tint?! I didn't know that until I read your post. The products I received in February's box weren't very good at all. It seems so unfair that some people received full sized goodies, while others got a box of tiny sample sizes, none of which were very exciting!
ReplyDeleteI've been a Glossybox subscriber for around six months now, and while I have had some nice products, I find most of what I receive ends up being stashed away and doesn't get used, so I'm seriously thinking about cancelling. I know £13.00 a month isn't a lot of money, but I figure I could use that cash every month towards something I really want and know I'll use, instead of having a box of samples which I probably wouldn't have chosen for myself delivered to me.
Glossybox is a nice idea, but it's not for me. x
